Hey! Speak for yourself!  :-)

I have several examples of the Texas Instruments Silent 700 series of
thermal printers/data terminals and they use thermal paper and a print
head that heats the dot matrix rather than hammers it.  These are roughly
1975 technology.

The original paper is no longer made but fortunately they still make
thermal paper for FAX machines (but I suspect for not too much longer)
and this works in these terminals after a slight adjustment to the
contrast control.
