Yes...  I have heard bits and pieces of a connection back to IBM as well.
It's possible these machines were originally configured to access some
kind of IBM timesharing service or something.

I was unable to read any of the text that had been on the decal that was
stuck to the front but that may have revealed something about what part
of the country the thing came from.

I do know that it was "imported" to MN and was not one of the M33's that
were used with the TIES and MECC timesharing services that we had here in
the state for schools to gain computer access in the 70's and early 80's.
