The "Miniature teletype" available on Craigs'List is a Teletype Model 14 or
perhaps a model 20 non-typing reperforator.
If it is 5-level, it is a 14. If it uses tape a bit wider and punches six
code holes, it is a model 20.
The mimeograph machine is indeed a true boatanchor. Make reinforcing steel
out of it.
The reperf is a bit of history that was very common in the days of the old
machines moving info around the world. It is perhaps one the simpler pieces
of teletype apparatus, with the most simple being the old model 14 "Iron
Horse" tape perforator.
If someone could get it for a dollar, what a steal. The motor, gears, and
the punch block (if in good condition) are each worth more than a dollar.
All should remember that for the most part, the models 14, 15, 20, and 26
used a lot of interchangeable parts. The teletype system of
interchangeability of parts was remarkable.
Question/quiz... Who in history came up with the concept of
interchangeable parts, and what was the first device that used truly
interchangeable parts??
Just somthin' to tweak minds..
