Greenkeyers:

There is a seller on epay who is offering ribbons for Model 40
printers. These ribbons are black, 30 yards long, a half inch wide
and are made of .004 inch thick nylon. The ribbons can be unwound
from the M40 spools and re-wound onto standard 2 inch Teletype
spools. (You have been saving the spools from old ribbons, haven't
you?) An eyelet or a knot will have to be made in one end of the
ribbon for reversing purposes. (An eyelet is already attached at
the end that is secured to the M40 spool.) The 2 inch spool can
hold about 13 or 14 yards of ribbon so you can get 2 new ribbons
from each Model 40 ribbon.

I bought some of these ribbons before (when they were being offered
in smaller quantities) and made up some spools. I tested them
against a new Nukote B-76 and a new Underwood ribbon. The M40
ribbon was just a little bit fainter than the Nukote B-76 or the
Underwood ribbon. I thought that the re-spooled M40 ribbon looked
just fine.

The seller has 6 lots of ribbons up for auction. The opening bid
is $9.99 for 50 sealed packages of the Model 40 ribbons. Shipping
is extra. Go to epay and search for DATASPEED to bring up the
auctions. They also appear if you search for TELETYPE. There is
also a Buy-It-Now sale for 40 ribbons - shipping included - for
$32.99.

I have no connection with the seller. I think this is an
interesting opportunity.
