Actually, Windows is better about serial port speeds than
UNIX. UNIX has a fixed list of speeds, and 45 baud isn't one
of them. Windows takes a baud rate, and if you put in 45, a
standard PC serial port will be appropriately adjusted.

There are patches to UNIX to change the baud rate, but they're
something of a pain.

Personally, I use Silicon Laboratories' USB to serial converters
and reprogram them to operate at 45 baud when told to operate at
600 baud. See

This allows me to use modern computers with USB ports.
