John,

It is a unique piece of equipment but the seller wants too much for it.
I have bid on this three times on this sellers auctions but even the
shipping is too high...

Here is what Bill Henry has to say about it...

Don,

That's a rare one. MCEM-DACI stands for Micro Computer Experimenter
Module - Dual Audio Cassette Interface. This dates back to 1975 or 76
when we were one of players (minor) in the hobby computer market -
with IMSAI, Apple, and many others. The box is a simple 2-tone modem
that let you record data on cassette tape and then play it back. It
was supposed to run at 2400 bps but that took very good tape (new
MAXELL) and a professional quality cassette deck. It also helped a
lot if the wind was out of the south on the 2nd Tuesday of the month!
But, it did fairly well at 600 and 1200 bps. Not many DACI's were
sold. This could have been one of the last. The MCEM-8080 was the
computer module in this system and it enjoyed a good following for
several years. BUT, as Apple grew, our market diminished. We dropped
the MCEM entire line by 1978. The one in the picture looks clean but
it is probably not worth the shipping cost - unless you are making a
museum!

Bill
