    The machines are cheap because they are so big and heavy.
The bulk keeps them from becoming collectables.

    Compare stock tickers, which are small desktop devices.
A working Edison-type ticker sells for around $10,000.

    At the other extreme is a Linotype. Those multi-ton
monsters have negative value, because nobody has a place
to put them.
