Well, OK. I retract two decimal points from my comment. :-)
Actually, I'm old enough to know where the generally cheap attitude of
teletype (including Teletype) collectors derives from. And for that matter
(although the historical reasons are unrelated) where the someshat similar
civilian and military radio collector's attitude derives from. But it's a fact
that the inherited attitude has served those few of us still around very
poorly the past couple of decades. People outside of our collector communities
who stumble across or inherit some of our flavor of hardware have value
perceptions colored by watching shows like Antiques Road Show. Then the first
person they encounter tells them they'll take it and not charge anything for
hauling it off. And they put it out front for Heavy Trash Day. If they had
been told that with a little luck and maybe a little effort they could
probably get a third of what they thought it was worth, everyone would be closer
to happy.
