Yep, most of the casual rag chewing has deserted RTTY for PSK31, leaving
RTTY to the DX chasers and contesters. I believe the reason is that
PSK31 has a slower turnaround time. In DX and contests the quick
turnaround of RTTY is beneficial, and you don't care if you get perfect
copy; if it looks like what you want it to look like, you call it good.
Short of arranging a contact ahead of time, we could decide on a specific
frequency as a "watering hole" as is done for some of the other odd
digital modes. And we could schedule a time of day for a round table.
Back in the glory days of RTTY there was usually a round table every
night of the week. Then W0BP held court on Sunday afternoons, calling
for check-ins from all the call areas from one to zero.
