Thanks a million Larry! After seeing your pictures I recall having seen some
small pieces of plastic lying on the base of the ASR 33 that I did not know
where they came from. I would never have been able to figure this one out
without your help. I did some testing yesterday with a ty wrap but it looks
as if I need to make fabricate a replacement part that I will make from a
pad of rubber that I have. Could also be that I need to make some
adjustments to the line feed mechanism.

Again - thanks a lot!

I vaguely remember a little square piece of flexible plastic that slid over
a metal "prong" It's on the left as you face the machine or the right
looking from the back.

I found pieces of this deteriorated plastic and seem to remember it caused
LF to fail. Look right and up to a bit under the platen. There may be a
piece of plastic remaining.

I used a small nylon ty wrap there and the metal piece that would move
against the plastic...coming up from under it, would hook and cause the LF
to work.

I can send you pix later today....I'm at work right now....does any of this
sound familiar?

Hello all you ASR 33 experts!

I recently acquired a Teletype ASR 33 to use as a terminal for my collection
of old Data General minicomputers (http://www.foxdata.com/blog/). After
cleaning the ASR 33 and lubricating, typing works and the paper tape punch
works but paper feed using the Line Feed key does not. Pressing the Line
Feed key punches the correct code in the paper tape so I assume the correct
code is set in the selector but the line feed drive link does not move and I
am unable to figure out if the Line Feed Blocking Lever blocks the movement
of the line feed drive link.

I am trying the follow the instructions on page 87 in the Bulletin 310B, vol
2 manual to check the line feed function but how do I manually set the code
in the selector with the typing unit off and placed in the stop condition?

I would appreciate any help with this issue.

Thanks,
