the  good thing is  nothing  stripped  sounding   or grinding.... just the 
click of a  relay.  heh  I as an on  off switch1do  dislike using pliers

In general you don't want to apply  power to a Teletype machine until you
have turned the motor by hand to be  sure nothing is jammed up.  You can
destroy things like plastic and  fiber gears if the motor runs and there
is a  jam.
