Winding Tape
John, Good to read your explanation of winding tape, that's exactly the way we wound tape in the UK International Telegraph service.
We only wound up tape/slip when it was destined to be telexed to the addressee.
We had 4 telegraph channels with up-to 4 operators off-line each punching batches of say a dozen messages into buckets, handing the start
of the slip to the on-line op who in turn had to make sure they were transmitted in numeric order by reading the first serial number after zczc.
Your way of hanging up the message tapes seem much better than our haphazard way of lifting one leg of the transmitter and sliding the start ends underneath.
We used buckets to avoid passers-by from standing on the tape.
I like to impress visitors to the shack by showing them how telegrams were transmitted in the old days and winding the tape up as quickly
as possible with the method you described, it's a winner with kids!
Any posts I've tried to make to Greenkeys have not appeared - must sort out the problem one day...
Cheers 73 Larry VK6CP
