Happenstance favored me:

Some week ago I unearthed what appeared to be a pretty home brewed  
terminal unit.  I really had no idea of what it was beyond that and  
must have gotten it at some fest.

Yesterday, I came upon "Beginners RTTY Handbook" Published by RTTY  
Journal, 1975.

The Handbook contains three Journal articles on the terminal unit:   
Irv Hoffs article introducing the design, and showing pictures of the  
boards made by HAL.  The A version of the thing includes the autostart  
board/function Irv details in a follow-on article.  The third article  
is on improving the scope output of the unit.

So, luckily, I have both a terminal unit and the articles that tell me  
how to get it running.
