Kevin,
Square keys are normal for all the TT-4 models except the "A". And they
are generally all olive/brown drab non-crackle finish. There is an
adjustment on the back of the print carriage - a grooved nut that rides
in a bar that does the printing. But is could be more complicated than
that. Try turning the motor by hand to see what it is doing.
