Christian:

I think most of the high speed BRPEs were made by Control Data Corp
for the miltary.

The Photo Electrics showed up on Univac equipment (Univac 1004,
1005s, etc). The Photo Electrics were also onboard the Univac
DCT-9000 series of equipments (replacements for the older Univac
1004s and 1005).

IBM 360/20 series equipment which we also had, used similar
BRPE equipment, and high speed tape transports as with the
DSTE and AMARS.

By the time much of this "high speed" stuff was coming along,
we were nearing the tail end of teletype being the mainstream
long haul communications system as everything was giving
way to computerization, high speed, and nearly full digitalization
of all-media message traffic (at least in the military).
