Hi Dave:
Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the overwhelming vote was for no greenkeys
change, though I did:
>>> ask people to keep subject lines informative (and stop changing them
every other day, unless they are incorrect -- it makes it difficult to
follow, or for an automated program to later sort).
>>> encourage off-topic posts, but also asking folks to please prefix the
subject line with "OT - xxx", so it is obvious, and to take lengthy
off-topic subjects off-list if they get too verbose.
>>> increased the message size from 200K to 1Meg, so larger pictures
don't bounce to me for moderation. You could always attach pics, but if the
total message size exceeded 200K, it would bounce to me for approval. I
don't want 8Meg pictures being posted, but 1Meg seems reasonable (200K was a
modem-era holdover I suppose).
>>> added the archive and search tool links as a footer to each greenkeys
post. This larger footer might get tediously-long after multiple replies
append a footer each, but we will see how it goes.
>>> I put all digest folks on moderation (sorry, but at least I did not
remove the digest option), so I can intercept generic digest subject lines,
and replies with entire digest-text -- I will bounce these back to the
sender to correct. Most digest users don't seem to reply too often, so I don't
think it will bother most digest folks.
>>> As compensation to the digest folks, I increased the size required to
create a digest, so busy days with lots of posts don't create multiple
digests (the idea is to get just one a day, but it is a size-triggered thing).
That's it for now. Let me know if I can tweak anything on greenkeys.
As far as being able to post videos and such, well greenkeys is not the
place for that, but let me make that a new thread -- see my next post.
thanks,
gil

Hi Gil:
As a long-time GKer and one who has worked with real teletypes for about 30
years during the period of my working life, my suggestion is that you NOT
change
anything regarding either content or format. As the email list is now, --
it is fine,
don't change a thing. Its' easy to use. If anything needs to be changed, it
is the need to be able to include photos with the emails....
What we DO need:
More videos of more teletype machines.
More photos and videos of Kleinschmdit machines.
More photos and discussion of tape relay operations, message
switching, and subjects regarding the actual USE of these machines
during their heydays. While most GKers seem to be hobbyists and
hams, few folks seem to know much about how these machines
were employed (circuits, networks, relays, central offices, etc).
These include both military and commercial applications.
