While helping my father de-junk his basement, I came across
two old pieces of Signal Corps equipment. See photo:

A pencil notation on the aluminium side of one of these says
"C.H.Jones" -- my grandfather's name. I found this only
after I got them home from my trip to my father's house.

Other pencil notations identify the tubes inside, suggesting
that my grandfather put some effort into maintaining or reverse
engineering these. I suspect my father collected them while
he was going through his father's cluttered basement (and it
was very cluttered!).

Anyway, here are dimensions and what the nameplates
on the two boxes say:

The smaller (and lighter) box -- 4 3/4" wide by 5 1/2"
high by 10 1/2" deep:

SIGNAL CORPS US ARMY
  RADIO RECEIVER BC-453-B
  SERIAL NO 8030
    ORDER NO 595-WF-43
         MADE BY
    COLONIAL RADIO CORP
        BUFFALO NY

The larger (and heavier) box -- 5" wide by 7 1/4" high
by 12" deep:

SIGNAL CORPS US ARMY
RADIO TRANSMITTER BC-458-A
  SERIAL NO 115325
         MADE BY
    WESTERN ELECTRIC
       NEW YORK NY

I think the best disposition of these old radios is as
museum pieces, but I'm including my father in this
E-mail just in case my discovery of his father's name
on the radios raises any questions.
