Many warbird people I have met lately hollow the stuff out and use it to
stash brochures in or have a lightened for better fuel mileage but
looks like the real thing... I refused to sell a radar display for this
exact reason to one of them ... I did put him on a list in case a
already gutted carcuss shows up though. An excellent canadate for these
folks is something the front panel looks spec. but empty otherwise...
Now there are full restorations where every thing is right on and
everything must be complete... that is another story...

The transmitter appeared to perhaps be original (though missing a cover
plate) but the little receiver has been ham-modified and so may not be of
interest to the warbird restoration community except as spare parts. Or so it
seems....a few more photos may reveal alterations to the transmitter as
well. Penciled markups on the transmitter may be hints that changes were made
and that was how they were 'documented'. Ham-altered units wouldn't be good
museum candidates. But there may be hams happy to get their hands on
already altered units for restorations, space parts, or to put on-the-air.

Yes indeed. Many thousands of those SCR-274N airplane radios were
made for WW-II, but most of them have been butchered. So a good place
for them is some group doing an authentic restoration of an old
airplane.
