ok our puncher thing is sort of dangling... the attached casting has
been repaired once and I can see how I can reattach it.. but what
selects the punch codes? there is just some wires going to the puncher
thing so assume the solenoid but others have said something about
rods?! what am I missing ?

I don't know if the character counter was an option, or just that the
early models (like the one below) didn't have a counter. You see some M19s
with the counter on the right side. But generally the counter is on the left
side, in front of the perforator punch. The punch solenoid needs about 1
amp at 120VDC.

The M19 that we have at the AWA Museum is a military version, TT-7/TG and
it has the dial on the left. There is also a 5-10 Watt lamp behind the
counter that comes on to let you know you have reached the end of the line.
The M19 could be set to allow the receiving a of message on the printer while
at the same time, the operator was punching a tape.

There is one other thing I need on model 19s
the one we have has the puncher thing on the left of the model 15
part of the unit this seems to have some coils that drive it...
but there is no clock face indicator that shows # of characters....

The M19 was available with a (non-typing) reperforator that sat on a small
dolly under the TD:
