ok....  so  was  it metal first then??  then a  break for wood??  then back 
to metal!?!?!
 
reminds me of the big transcription record masters...  used to have  metal 
core until WW2  then GLASS! (damn they break easy!)

I  would hazard a guess after WWII.  They started making them out of wood  
during the war so the metal could go to the war effort.  I tried to get  one 
that was in Jacksonville, FL last year, but a buyer in Canada out bid  me.
