[GreenKeys] Teletype in movies

I received a phone call last night and without any sort of introduction I was told that I was a "senior citizen" and warned me to not hang up before I listened to his message. This has forced me to seriously consider how I feel about "messages." And one of the things I considered was really hard for me to accept since there had been a time when it's recognition would have been made by virtually 100% of the population: the sound of a model 15 chugging away to announce that a news report was "next." I had a friend who worked in a local radio station and I would visit him and spend a lot of time simply reading the messages that came over the Model 15 RO that resided in a closet. I was especially impressed with the fact that a great part of his job was simply opening the closet door, ripping off the summary report and reading it into a microphone!

Today my 40 year old sons certainly would recognize that sound but absolutely none of their friends would. My grandchildren might think they were listening to a broken washing machine. My great grand daughter would have no idea what the sound was and certainly has no understanding even though she frequently walks past such machines!

Whither goest us?
