Randy use to restore rubber platens etc on  occasion. The 
product on this site seems to be what he used.  
"http://www.wytekdirect.com/rubber-renew-and-lable-remover.htm" 
I seem  to remember a lid getting cracked or some of it 
getting spilled once and  it smelled really bad so you may 
want to experiment in a well ventilated  place.
