Model 14 machines in the Western Union 2B configuration use 5/16"
paper tape. In the AT&T configuration, they use 3/8" tape. I've
tried 5/16" tape in a machine configured for 3/8" tape, and it
prints, but wanders around a bit, so the printing is uneven.
Both gummed and ungummed tapes were used with Model 14 tape
printers. Morkrum's original sales were to railroads, and
they used teleprinters mostly for "instant messaging".
The recipient was where the machine was, usually in
some railroad switching tower. So they didn't glue tape
onto forms, and used un-gummed tape.
I sell 5/16" tape; see "http://www.aetherltd.com/supplies.html"
I have no idea how that would work in KSM's Morse inker, but
it's worth a try. If someone from MRHS gets in touch with
me directly, I'll send them a spool. It's un-gummed tape,
made of rice paper. It's stronger than WU's original
newsprint tape.
If someone really wants gummed tape, or 3/8" tape, I
can put them in touch with Suzie at Captain Industrial
in China, who would be glad to take your order. The
minimum order is 500 rolls, and with shipping that
will cost you about $1200 to $1300. Their main
business is making tape for tape-and-reel packaging
for semiconductors, so they make a precision product.
