"Type C can only be used on units designed to use regular perforated tape."

I suspect that this might imply there are other subtle differences between
chad and chadless tape readers.

Consider that this equipment can be over 70 years old and probably not
commercially serviced in the past 40 years, there is a strong possibility
of multiple "Frankentype(tm)" hardware out there cobbled together by
some one with a overinflated idea of "I know what I'm doing."
