Hey folks:
I think I finally found a cost-effective gizmo for tty motor power -- the
PowerSwitch Tail II
_http://www.powerswitchtail.com/Pages/default.aspx_
(http://www.powerswitchtail.com/Pages/default.aspx)
Only 26 bucks and worldwide versions available. Not UL-listed, but the
PCB looks like a safe layout (peek at the kit, but buy it assembled).
To get a UL-listed relay like this from a place like russound or xantech
will cost about 100 bucks.
I started looking at little relay/driver pcbs at sparkfun and then
dealextreme, but found that lots of them had low-voltage circuitry or groundplane
too close to hv traces. This gizmo looks like a decent design. Too bad it
is not UL-approved, but then it would cost twice as much.
I've ordered a couple to play with and I'll let you know what I find.
