Hi Frank,

The roll of paper is suspended by two waxed strings that attach to the
ends of a steel rod which is about 1/2 inch in diameter.
The roll of paper swings back and forth as the platen moves back and
forth. I have an operator's manual for the 15 and 26.

I will email a copy to you. I have a very nice M26 year with
everything except the cabinet. Darn it all anyway.

  Jim,
I have the cd's of the many Teletype manuals you sent me some time
ago, but nothing showing how the paper roll was constructed. There is a
name plate on the rear of the typing unit that says "Bell telephone
Service", so that may make a difference. The typing unit comes off
the base
with three thumb bolts similar to a 15, and the base has a keyboard very
similar to a 15 with the clutch, cam and contacts driven by a gear on
the
typer, but no sign of any roll holder. I figured out that the
modification
was to return the carriage alright, but had no idea it was a widely
installed mod.
I ordered a couple of rolls from the e-bay paper guy, and I need to
find a
ribbon. The one on the machine is dry, but looks OK otherwise. I am
amazed
that the machine seems to turn over so smoothly and everything seems
to work
freely.
i'm going to re-wire it and turn it on tomorrow. I got it from the Ham
Radio Club in Grundy County about 5 years ago so I am sure it was part
of
Ham severe wx TTY net back in the '50's started by W9QBH, now SK.

thanks for the info

Frank
