And that's probably when you are generating more or less perfect signals.
It was easier to go from 100 to 110 baud and 2 stop bits than to make a
reliable selector for one stop bit.  Neither of those is a "standard"
speed - the military standardized on 75 multiplied by a power of two
for speeds.  But it turned out to be seriously hard to make a selector
to work at 150 baud, as the Model 37 design effort showed.  IMHO they
should have gone for a parallel input printer and an electronic receiving
distributor; but those mechanical designers had egos to uphold.
