Eugene,
The TT-235 is a stand-alone, 5 bit tape reader, but unlike the more
standard versions (TT-122 with Synchronous motor or the TT-123 with
series governed motor), the "TT-235 is equipped with a remote control
facility to enable it to transmit one character at a time on demand, or
operate like the other models in a free running mode." (from KLI
Catalog, Feb, 1970). I believe this remote control function was to
allow it to operate with certain encryption equipment.
It also generates a 7.00 unit code and is "Baud rated" ie, the catalog
says it will operate at 45.5, 56.8 or 75 bauds with the proper motor
gearing. The similar TT-122 & 123 are rated in WPM at 60, 75, & 100 wpm
with the same sets o f gears.
It is a stand-alone unit, not part of the AN/FGC-25.
73,
Duncan
