I had known one of my co-editors for 40 years; he introduced me to the
other one about 20 years ago. We all share an interest in the history of
cryptography. When, in 2000, the Tunny Report was declassified we resolved
to publish it, as an example of extreme (for 1945) cryptanalysis and as a
milestone in the history of computing, as we describe in our Preface.
Transcribing and formatting took time, during which we thought of adding
features like the biographical notes. I tried to imagine what I would want
as a reader, but after living with the project for 15 years I came to
distrust my ability to anticipate what other readers would want. You and
your colleagues will have to be the final judges of whether we succeeded.
Jim

this does not confuse the mail list software.
