I am certainly amenable to that, but the USB interface coding, is certainly
new territory for me. Anyone like volunteer to do the software side of
such a system?

Hey, I was just thinking -- I haven't been following this thread in detail
but
if you're doing a new layout for this board i wonder if it would make sense
to
use a small mcu like an atmega32u4 or stm32 onboard in place of the cp2102
usb-to-uart adapter, this way it could have various options for character
set
conversion too. You could set direct pass-thru or conversion back and forth
to
ascii using a jumper, or even have a more complex configuration screen
enabled
by powering up with a button pushed or something. Just a though.
I've been thinking about doing a board like this but the likelyhood i'll get
it done anytime soon with all the other stuff i've been meaning to do makes
it
seems like a poor idea to bring it up on the mailing list.. :)
