speaking of acetic acid... the plastic window on the 26 is it acetate!?

there have been a rash of rotting enigma machines due to a green acetate
filter stored in the top of the enigma cases as an option for the
machine.... literally has rotted the metal keys of many machines or least case
corroded them...\

Got the crypto gang on board with the test strips that the film folk
use to test for 'vinegar syndrome' which is something us archivists deal
with all the time....

Roy,

Thanks for the info on the rewinder, and the tips for workign with
enameled wire. I will file that for future reference.

Yes, I do need to secure my coil repair somehow, just not sure how yet.
Easiest would be to re-wrap it in something like friction tape, which
is very much what was on it originally. Epoxy seems too permanent in
case it needs attention again. RTV might be good, but it has the acetic
acid carrier which is probably not a good idea. The original cloth wrap
is still there, maybe I will just gently close that up and tack it
closed with a bit of epoxy or some other glue.

D.

winding. A bit of epoxy, or maybe transformer tape applied very carefully
might be in order.
