Hi Ralph,

My six years were up in May of 1968.
Since I had been extended for 2 months due to Vietnam I was lower on the list for recall.
I thought about reenlisting ($2,000. bonus) but I would have had to go to SERE school
before re-assignment. Then the chances of Market Time duty in Vietnam would have been
very high. I also had not even hugged a woman in 4 years and 2 months. So I got out.

I still have my dress blues, undress blues, and two pairs of whites, one with jumper one with
tropical white shirt. I put my whites on to put Old Glory at half staff on July 27th each year
in commemoration of the three members of my aircrew who died in a crash in Bermuda as
I stood on the flight line and watched it happen.

Thank you for your service!

Don

3rd generation US Navy

P.S. I kept my SECRET clearance with Illinois Bell until 1983 when I was debriefed and
told I could not visit certain countries for 10 years. I needed the clearance to install and
maintain the POTUS Teletype machines (Nixon changed that to PRESUS) later designed
access circuits for the WHCA for Jimmy Carter.
