[GreenKeys] M28 remote keyboard lock - what for?

The reason for my message is - what was this used for? In what applications
was it considered a Good Thing?
(FWIW, this KSR also includes time-delay, motor-start, and synchronous
pulse transmission)
I am resurrecting a 28KSR that, unbeknownst to me, includes the remote
keyboard locking feature (something I had never encountered before).
Imagine my surprise as the KBD LOCK key started merrily banging up and down
whenever the printer was running open.
BSP 573-116-100 enlightened me - this feature uses the stunt box to lock
the keyboard when two consecutive blank characters are received. A plunger
pushes on a bail which pushes up on the end of the KBD LOCK function lever.
I disabled this remote mechanism by removing its yield spring and latching
its plunger/bail out of the way. I don't know if this is the approved
procedure but it has worked so far. (n.b. - stunt boxes scare me - I try to
just leave 'em alone and hope they will return the favor)
best wishes from your fellow teletype aficionado,
