[GreenKeys] de-gumming a 33

I bought the big bottle, filled it in a spray bottle, used few different sizes of inexpensive paintbrushes and also rinsed with Simple Green. Got the air hose out and dried the puppy as much as possible. But be carefully with the air house on tiny springs - you may never find them again. After that, I used a hairdryer on medium heat. I was very satisfied with the outcome.

Hi Nick -

Thanks for the tip. I'd certainly have to be a lot less careful with Simple Green than solvents and q-tips. Did you use it full strength, or diluted? Did you rinse w/ water? How did you dry the beast?

Thanks again,

Keith

Simply Green is not only a good general cleaner, it is also a wonderful degreaser. And it is also on the mild side.
Had the same problem with my other Iron Horse I found early November at the Stone Mountain hamfest. Nothing was moving, everythingwas gummed up. Now she is dancing like an eighteen year old. Try it, you will be surprised.

Hi guys -

Starting to try to diagnose some problems in my 33's keyboard. The culprit (not surprisingly) seems to be gummed up old oil - the spring on the universal code bar barely moves it b/c its pivot is so sticky. With all the plastics in this assembly, I know better than to use any kind of solvents (boy, how I wish I could use mineral spirits like I did for my 15!), but what do you suggest for trying to clean this part, and for that matter other parts of a 33? Simple green and water? Dawn dish detergent? If a water-based method is used, what's the best way to dry it?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered before; I tried to search the archives, but got 404's on both the basic and advanced searches.

Thanks,

Keith
