Hi All,
I am trying to restore a model 15 and I've run into an obstacle. I'm
hoping that someone here can offer some advice and the benefit of
their experience.
I can turn the motor by hand and confirm that the selector mechanism
is working correctly: it samples the state of the selector mag and
transfers that to the vanes for printing, and it also moves the
"clutch stop arm" to initiate the printing cycle (screenshots from a
Teletype Bulletin 144 attached).
However, the print cycle is not happening. The reason is that the
"driven clutch member" fails to engage with the "driving clutch
member". Even though the clutch stop arm retracts, the driven clutch
member does not move and the "teeth" between it and the driving clutch
member don't come into contact, so the printing bail cam doesn't turn,
and nothing happens.
I can't seem to move it (the driven clutch member) left/right by hand;
maybe there is something caught in there between the teeth, but no way
to see that. It seems like the next step will be to remove and
perhaps replace the main shaft assembly, but that seems kind of
daunting.
I would speculate that this may have been the failure that took this
unit out of service. Any suggestions or advice would certainly be
appreciated. Thanks.
