[GreenKeys] Madison TTY/Radio Update

Here's some more information on the equiment in Madison. I'm posting
this to the entire Greenkeys list (not just the Wisconsinites) because
there's some new equipment to list.

I drove in to Madison and saw the equipment today. The good news is
that the Teletypes, at least, are not in any immediate danger.
The buyer of the house where they are located is a friend of the owner
(the elderly widow of the fellow who originally collected it).
Both she and her friend Ryan (the electrical engineer from down the
block who is helping out) are very nice people who would like to see
the equipment preserved. They don't have tight deadlines.

But at the same time they feel obliged to try to do the best they
can for the owner. A teletype in Minneapolis just sold on ebay for
a tad over $800. So they're going to try listing this equipment
on ebay to see what happens.

If some or all of it fails to sell on ebay, they know that I'm willing
to make a fair offer for the Teletypes and a token offer for the radios,
just to save them. Should that happen, I'll be looking to you folks
on the list to find good homes for them (especially the radio gear,
as I'm not really connected to the amateur radio community).

Now for the technical details. I've put together a set of photos
and a quick writeup at:

http://www.galleyrack.com/temp/madison-tty-radio/

(best to view it on a real computer - it's a quick-and-dirty web page
that probably won't display well on your phone)

Summary:

- Three TTYs (a 19 w/out the TD, a 15, and a 15 (TG-7-B)),
with home-made acoustic enclosures for the last two.
- A freestanding aluminum rack full of radio equipment
- Three pen recorders
- A radio mast

I will draw the attention of those of you who are into radio (that's
most of you, right?) to the rack of radio equipment. It's a neat rack -
I didn't know they made aluminum ones. It also seems as if it might
have some value (philosophical if not monetary) as a complete setup.

The fellow helping out, Ryan, plans to remove the individual units
from the rack and list them separately on ebay. He also thinks that
some of the individual tubes might have value, parted out.
So on the off chance that there is someone who thinks that this should
be preserved as a unit (and is willing to pay to keep it off ebay),
now is the time to contact Ryan.

If anyone has any further information to assist in identifying these
units, please post it to the list (or e-mail me) and I'll update
the page of photographs.

Regards,
David M.
