I had a wonderful Science teacher in school; Mr Parsons was his name.  I 
was teaching myself electronics at the time, and I showed him my pride and 
joy: a crystal set that I'd built myself.  His first comment was: "Where's 
the diode?".  "There, sir!".  His next comment related to the size of the 
inductor, which was just a jumble of mains wiring that I'd found 
somewhere; it did a wonderful job of picking up the Sydney Airport 
beacons, which is how I learned the phonetic alphabet ("Information Kilo, 
Information Mike" etc).
