[GreenKeys] Rust Removers: Experience?

After restoring five Teletype machines, a few comments.

I start with cleaning, using a soak in Simple Green
and de-ionized water. 2-3 days may be necessary just
to get dirt and oil off neglected machines. Rinse
with de-ionized water, so as not to leave crud behind.

Evapo-Rust is very effective. It's not an acid; it's a chelating agent.
It attacks oxides, but not metal. It will remove Parkerizing, an
anti-rust coating applied to many Teletype parts before assembly, so
don't use Evapo-Rust unless you have to.

For un-jamming stuck parts on shafts, I've used Loctite Fast Acting
Corrosion Freeze and Release Spray. This is a mixture of freeze spray
and penetrating oil. The freezing process will shrink metal slightly,
opening up enough space for the penetrating oil to get in.
This is effective in about two minutes. I wear eye protection,
gloves, and a volatiles respirator when using this stuff.

I've used carburetor cleaner on a gummed up selector. It worked.
