I had one like that.  It was a U.S. military model, made by Teletype but
modified by Hallicrafters.  The bottom plate is heavier than usual, and
the fine threaded big holes take some big bolts that are drilled out so
the unit can be fastened down in a vehicle installation.

I don't think you really need a bottom plate, and you can use chemistry
rubber stoppers that fit into the big holes as a substitute for rubber
feet used in the non-military version.

The other part of the modification was extra parts to hold the cover on
in a bouncing vehicle.
