GM OMs;

I posed a comment to a comic. The comic was about teenager's dating.

The readers (probably) won't enjoy it - but I thought the group might.

...

So I was this dragged-out-looking Hippie, back in the '60's, in 10th
grade. There was a nice girl that I'd talk with. One day she invited me
to come over to her house on Saturday for lunch. I say OK. So I go over
to her house and we sit on the couch in the living room.

Her father and mother sit down on the easy-chairs. They're pretty-much
giving me the evil-eye - especially her ol' man. They live in a
pretty-neat house - and I'm looking around a lot and enjoying how they
decorated it.

The OM notices and says: "Do you like our house?" I say: "Yeah".

Then comes the magic question: "So, what do you especially like about it?"

Well, everything, but most of all that it smells like a Teletype Machine"...

The OM chokes on his iced-tea - and spits most of it on his lap.
Then he says: "how would YOU know what a Teletype machine smells like?"
I tell him: "I'm an amateur radio operator -you know, a Ham, and I
run radio teletype - or RTTY as we call it. I have an old Teletype
machine in my bedroom.

He asks me what my call-sign is. I tell him WA2EAA. A BIG SMILE comes
on his face. He say: "Well, TONY, - I'm K2XXX." I say: "JOHN?" he says
yeah. (John was a big-wheel on Air Force MARS).

That was it for the date: we went out to the garage to his shack. His
wife brought out the sandwiches and iced-tea for our lunch.

I started to come by on the weekends to hang out with John, and learn
more about RTTY.

I was later to learn, that on the first date with his daughter, when
we went to the garage, the Mom said: "it's it great that your father
and your boy friend are getting along?"

Girl friend: "I think I lost my boy friend to my father... :-(

UE,
K2EAA - TONY
