GM OM;

Yeah, - when I told Irv Hoff I was getting a Data General computer
he asked me why DGC instead of DEC.

I told him that I'm a field engineer for DGC and I
maintain/upgrade/repair/program them.

He begged me to go DEC instead - so that we could exchange programs.
I told him that I have all the information and knowledge and parts
available (everything was TTL - so if I took a chip out of my
service collection, which cost less than a dollar, for personal use,
I didn't feel like I was stealing from the company - because using it
in a circuit I designed would lead to more than a dollar's worth of
knowledge and understanding about computer circuitry) to keep a DGC
computer running at home.

When I modified an interface to run at 45.45 Baud 5-level, I was
able to connect it to the ST-6 and then do all sorts of cool things
with it. I had multiple SELCALS running so I would watch the news, weather,
and autostart channel for things I was interested in - and it would
store it in memory separately so I could look at it when I wanted to
without scrolling thru miles of paper. Also, you could tell my RTTY
messages on the autostart channel because they were justified (like
reading a newspaper or magazine).

In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made A LOT of people very angry
and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
