[GreenKeys] KLINSCHMIT TT-117 WIRING HELP

Al,

Garble on your last transmission: "can I put this series look in series 
with keyboard" ???

In the upper right corner of the keyboard is the set of series-loop 
keyboard contacts (one for Mark & one for Space). Below them is a 
cylinder with cams spread out around the cylinder. This cylinder is 
prevented from rotating by a lever. There is a felt clutch behind the 
cylinder. Pressing a key generates the 5-bit code mechanically on 5 
horizontal bars.

On a TT-4  or TT-98 (simpler versions of the TT-117), pressing a key 
moves the lever out of the way, the cylinder rotates and the staggered 
cams do a parallel to serial conversion to  open & close the series-loop 
contacts above the cams.

In the case of the TT-117, there is also the option for parallel data 
output directly to the reperf. So if you just wanted to cut tape, you 
don't want the cam cylinder to rotate and send what you are typing out 
on the serial line.  I don't remember all the details and I dont have a 
unit here to look at, but it seems like the solenoid that you are 
talking about is what allows the cams to rotate.

With the motor running, can you move the solenoid arm while trying to 
type and see if the cams rotate and interrupt the loop??

I would assume that the solenoid needs to be energized in order to type 
onto the loop.  But you can't have the solenoid energized all the time 
or you would be sending continuous Blanks.  There must be a contact to 
energize the solenoid somewhere.  I don't know where the switch 
selection between parallel & serial operation was, but you probably just 
need to supply some voltage to the solenoid & keyboard switch combination.

(Seems like there should have been something written up about this mod 
in RTTY Journal or CQ or 73 magazine???  But shouldn't be too hard to 
solve it.)

I'll bring home the FGC-25 manual tomorrow, but probably won't be able 
to look at it until Wednesday.
