Yes, you'll need to use 'stty' to properly set up the terminal. I am not sure about Mint specifically but I know it can be done on Debian. You may need to install some packages if it's not there by default. stty will handle the case conversion and other such necessary things. I'm not sure of the various settings offhand but some time spent reading the man page and experimenting will get you there. Keep in mind this code probably hasn't been maintained in a few decades so there are some quirks and not everything works 100%. I'm honestly surprised Linux even has support for teletype terminals anymore - or ever, given that it came about in the 90s and teletypes were rather niche at that point. BSD doesn't have support or at least not right out of the box -- and maybe never did, at least that I could figure out.
