Back in the '90s, it was all the rage to claim that high tension AC 
power distribution
towers caused leukemia. I actually had a friend, a cardiologist, that 
insisted on
unplugging the air pump for his kids fish tank at night because of

I went to North High school in Torrance.
KNX was just under a mile away.
about 1000' North of the campus was the La Fresa Bridge Substation for 
So Cal
Edison, and the transmission lines ran parallel to the school a block to 
the East.
With the main source feeders running West from the station.
