Sounds similar to my situation growing up.  A local, daytime AM 
station's studio and tx was almost literally out my back door and any 
electronics project of mine that involved audio would usually have that 
station superimposed on it.  Fortunately they were a daytimer and I 
don't think they put out more than a kW or maybe 1.5 kW so I had some 
relief at night and could play with a crystal set and actually pick up a 
couple of other stations, and enjoy my other projects without their 
programming emanating from them.
