GM OMs;
Hi Ron; I know this isn't the answer you're looking for but
like me, it might be a work-around.
Instead of fighting the problem, you can go on eBay and buy a
used laptop with a native RS-232 port FOR CHEAP!
I have 6 HP 4150 laptops that are dedicated to specific
applications - and some of them are pretty silly: one just
runs a nice digital clock. Two are in the shack, one as a log
book, one as my RTTY interface. One shows the phases of the moon
and where the sun is over the earth, and best-of-all, one gleans
my incoming e-mails and announces the subject in Morse Code - so
when I'm near it I can tell what my new e-mail is about. I had 4
others but they've died over the years, so I cannibalized them
for spare parts.
I paid anywhere from $15.oo to $35.oo for each one - and they've
been running non-stop for 10 years!
They don't need to be state-of-the-art when it comes to what I use
them for - and all the old software runs just fine on them.

Weed's Axiom:
Never ask two questions in an e-mail:
The reply will discuss the one in which you are
least interested, and say nothing about the other.
