This is the basic recipe.

The key to this one is the "simple syrup."
Other recipes have you mashing mint leaves and sugar into a paste
and using seltzer water. Good liquor doesn't need seltzer water to
"improve" the taste.
Also, Walmart has fresh (live) mint plants in the produce section.
I put one tablespoon of syrup, 1 tablespoon of water and two
tablespoons of Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon into a
"old fashioned" glass then added 4 ice cubes and a sprig of mint.
I strongly suggest buying decent bourbon instead of that special
$5/gallon stump rot stuff at the corner package store.
Now I ain't much of a hard liquor drinker to begin with, but this
was definitely a "nom nom nom" instead of a "What the hell did
I just put in my mouth?" type drink.
Side note: Earlier this month, at 63 years old, I did fried chicken
for the very first time. That turned out surprisingly well too.
In a couple of hours, when I get tired of circling around the shop,
I'm gonna head home, have dinner and sneak in another mint
julep on the back porch while tossing tennis balls at the dogs.
