!!!MOTOR WARNING!!!

Motor disassembly is not for the feint hearted or the uninitiated!

Special tools are needed for the removal of the end bells and the armature.

Namely the Teletype bearing puller, and an arbor press.

If you are tempted to take out the bells and bearings with a big
"kabonger", you will do major irreparable damage to it.

Well, I am a rookie and don't know a whole lot about electronics.
What do you do with an old piece of equipment and a not so good looking
wire coming out of the motor. I never opened up a motor housing to rewire the
cord.
Is it possible and how difficult is it to replace ???

In recent weeks I have been going through a number of pieces of M28 gear
that have been sitting for quite a while. In many cases the AC line cord
insulation inside the unit (or power connector) has turned very brittle from
age/heat/oil, meaning bare wires are showing.
So don''t neglect to put on a new AC line cord whenever you are
resurrecting a piece of gear. I get #18 3-wire computer cords at hamfests for 25-50
cents each and cut off the IEC end.

Also remember:
- hot lead (black or brown) to the switch/fuse terminal
- neutral lead (white or blue) to the common AC terminal
- ground lead (green or green/yellow) to the chassis

Yours in practicing safe teletypery,
