The back plane is there for flexibility.
There are three cards involved.
1. i-Telex controller that connects to the internet.
2. Power supply card.
3. Local cards.
Dual TW-39 loops to local machines with call control units.
TW-39 and Serial, one port is an ASCII port to talk to a terminal.
USTTY which is set up for use with a Teletype machine without
the call control unit.
Both the i-Telex card and the "local" cards have an Atmel micro-
computer that is programmed to do what is required.
For example, the TW-39 card looks like a TW-39 central office to
the local machine. So all the standard TW-39 hand shaking and
call dialing work just as if the machine were still connected to the
original TW-39 (Telex) network.
