Thanks for the explanation, Ralph, that hadn't occurred to me at all.    
I'm in IL and it would be vastly pressing my luck to even suggest one of 
my New England buddies haul such a thing to Dayton next year ;-)   But 
now I'll know how to act if something should come up on Craigslist 
somewhere close to my neighborhood.

As long as I have floor for dopey questions, let me ask one more:   Why 
is the model 35 so much bigger than the 33?    What's in all that extra 
space, as it looks like the same tape punch/reader is on the left, just 
not as compactly mounted, and I'd guess the blank panel on the right 
could house a modem and dial keypad.  But the ASR-33 had all that stuff 
in the much narrower form factor - what am I missing?
